Training
Overview
Our goal is to increase capacity development through various training initiatives. Some of these include workshops, short courses and summer school programs. We are still in the initial development phase of these projects, thus, we welcome any suggestions or input from the broader marine research and civil society community, to identify research, data and capacity needs. Please get in touch for more information or to discuss opportunities for collaboration.

Advancing marine monitoring in Seychelles: a deeper dive into stereo-BRUVS
22 - 25 May 2023 and 28 May - 01 June 2023
Workshop summary
Between 22 May – 01 June 2023 The Blue Economy Research Institute (BERI, https://beri.unisey.ac.sc/) at The University of Seychelles, in collaboration with Ocean Life Science (https://www.oceanlifescience.com/) and the Scientific Council for Oceanic Research - SCOR (https://scor-int.org/) hosted two workshops: “Advancing marine monitoring initiatives in Seychelles: a deeper dive into stereo-BRUVS research”.
The aim of these workshops was to increase coordination and harmonization for improved marine monitoring in Seychelles and to expand the application of baited remote underwater stereo-video systems (stereo-BRUVS) as monitoring tool.
The key objectives of the workshop were to (1) Identify ways to improve and coordinate marine monitoring initiatives in Seychelles, with the possibility of establishing a national working group (2) Advance understanding and knowledge of the use of stereo-BRUVS for marine ecosystem management and (3) to build capacity and expertise for stereo-BRUVS research in Seychelles.
